5th Grade | Native American Storytelling Update

Today in 5th grade art we took the next step to creating our Native American Storytelling vest's.    We cut the pattern and crumpled our paper to make the texture more like actual leather. 

 

Ask you child what their "short story" is about!

 

 



3rd Grade | Creepy Houses

Third grade art started a new CREEPY "silhouette" drawing of an old mansion.

 

We have discussed the meaning of a silhouette, as well as positive and negative space.

 

See if your child can tell you what each mean!

 

 

 

Preschool Art

Halverson is very fortunate to have a preschool program in our building!  This year, we have been extra fortunate to offer ART to the preschool classes! 

Below you can see the afternoon preschool class working on some fun shapes matching games. 

 

Ask your child if they remember all the different shapes they saw today :)

 

1st Grade | Owls

In 1st grade art we started an owl project!  We have been reviewing a lot about shapes lately and have started talking about color.  This owl project fits both of these elements of art quite well! 

The paper we started with to create this project were each rectangles.  We cut each of them into new shapes.  Circles for eyes, triangles for beaks, and a long skinny rectangle for a branch. 

The color schemes we have been talking about are
- WARM Colors : Red, orange, and yellow
- NEUTRAL Colors: Black, grey, and tans

Our owl has YELLOW eyes, and ORANGE beak, and RED feet!  WARM COLORS
Our background is BLACK, our branch is GREY, and our owl feathers are BROWN! NEUTRALS!!

We just got started on these this week so ask you child what theirs looks like!

5th grade | Native American Storytelling

In 5th grade art we have started discussing Native American Storytelling.  Today we came up with short stories at our tables using Native American symbols.  Ask you child what their story was about!

 

MARTH- Tessellations

We are very fortunate this year to have some sections in our schedule for Art Enrichment.  The 2nd grade class this year is coming on Wednesday's.  We are doing MATH related art lessons for this particular Art Enrichment Class.  We started our first lesson on "Tessellations".  Ask your child if they remember what a tessellation is!  

 

If not :).....Here's a brief definition: 

 

•   Tessellations are repetitive patterns of shapes that fit perfectly together across a 2-dimensional plane of space (think of how floor tiles fit together, or the graphic artist M.C. Escher).

Who's MC Escher you ask??...the kids like to call him "MC Squishy"  :)  they can remember that name better,,,I can't imagine why ;)

•   Maurits Cornelis Escher, usually referred to as M. C. Escher, was a Dutch graphic artist. He is known for his often mathematically inspired woodcuts, lithographs, and mezzotints.

•   Born: June 17, 1898, Netherlands

•   Died: March 27, 1972, Netherlands

•   Full name: Maurits Cornelis Escher

2nd Grade | Pumpkins

This week we got a great start on our pumpkin composition.  Our medium we are using is "chalk pastel".  We have talked about "overlapping" and "blending" with this lesson.  These should be in the halls soon!
