4th Grade is just about finished with their warm and cool bugs! We focused on line, color, and tints and shades for this lesson. First the kids drew a (freehand) "contour" line drawing of a bug of their choice. Then, using rulers, they divided the drawing into several shapes using "intersecting" lines. They choose warm or cool colors to color in their bugs then the opposite for their backgrounds. They finished up by adding "tints" and "shades" to each shape! See if your child can tell you what a tint and a shade are.

5th Grade | Balanced Warm & Cool Spirals!
5th grade just completed their Balanced Warm & Cool Spirals! We talked about the three main types of balance: symmetrical, asymmetrical, and radial. We also talked about the warm and cool colors. The students chose a color for their back ground, then based off of that color (warm or cool), they chose the opposite colors for their balanced spirals. Come check them out in the halls of Halverson today!
3rd Grade | Sea Life
3rd grade finished up their warm and cool shapes! We took a break from the lengthy lessons and did some free hand drawing of sea life. I drew several step-by-step examples of sea creatures on the smart board and the kids followed along. This only took one 50 minute class and I LOVED THEM!! They should be hanging in your child's classroom or maybe they have made their way home by now! See if your child can reacreate one of the sea creatures they drew.

5th Grade | Color Balance
In 5th grade art we are talking about balance. Along with that we are using warm and cool colors. See if you child can tell you the difference between symmentrical, asynnetrical, and radial balance. Also see if your child can tell you what colors are warm and what colors are cool. See 5th graders working below!
