This week in Art!

First grade has been working on learning about the primary, secondary, warm, and cool colors.  We focused on the warm colors for the new project.

Today 1st grade painted!!

We used yellow and red paint and mixed them to create ORANGE!!  They painted leaves on their trees then folded their papers in half to make a monoprint!

Ask you child to tell you about the mixed paint and the monoprint!

First Grade Started A New Fall Project!

We started this lesson out by reading "Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf" by Lois Ehlert.

We discussed the primary colors red and yellow and how they mix to make orange.  Orange, red, and yellow are warm colors.

We talked about the fall season and how colors in nature change from cool colors to warm colors.

We started the lesson by drawing trees.  Check in with you child to see what will be our next step.

ALL first grade students will NEED their art shirts by next week!  This can be simply an old T-shirt of yours.  Just something big enough to cover up their clothing while we paint.

Kindergarten started a new fall project!

We started this lesson by talking about two primary colors (red and yellow) and how they mix to make orange.  Orange, red, and yellow are the "warm colors".  We also practiced our tracing, coloring, and shapes!

In the days to come we will be starting the fall project related to this.  In this new project, we will learn about texture, lines, colors, and shapes.

Keep your eyes open for the new fall project soon!

This Week In Art...

Kindergarten and 1st Grade were busy being assessed on their art standards!  This is so I can see what they remembered from last year and what we will need to work on more for this year.

Below is a first grade student finishing up their assessments.

Here are a few examples for Kindergarten completing their pattern assessing.

They started with a pile like this:
Then had to show me a "2 color" pattern like this:
Many of them knew color patterns.  In the upcoming weeks we will talk more about patterns and challenge them with more advanced multiple colored, shapes, and line patterns.

You can help by practicing with them at home!

If you have Lego's, this would work great for color or shape patterns.

Another fun and easy way to make patterns is with stickers.

This Week In Art

This week in art we talked about many art elements.

In First Grade we talked about the Primary Colors (red, yellow, and blue).  First grade learned that these three colors can mix to make other colors!

We also read the book "Mouse Pain" by Ellen Stoll Walsh.  In this story the mice learn what colors you get when you mix the primary colors!  See if your child remembers which colors mix to to make other colors!

In Kindergarten this week we learned about SHAPES!  The four shapes we will be focusing on most are: square, triangle, circle, and rectangle.  See if your child can draw a picture of each!

Have a GREAT weekend- we'll see you back on Monday!!

This week in art...

This week in art I met all the Kindergarten and 1st grade students!

I can already tell this is going to be a GREAT year!

This week, we toured the art room and talked about "art class".  We also talked about our summers.  Your child will be bringing home the artwork they created representing "their favorite thing this summer was..."

We read a book called The Art Lesson by Tomie de Paula

Ask your child to tell you what happened in the story.

I hope you all have a WONDERFUL weekend!  See you back on Monday!
