5th Grade | Symmetrical Zentangle Leaf

2nd Grade | Owls

In second grade art we have been working on mixing primary colors to make secondary colors.

Today we painted for the first time in 2nd grade!  Before we started we discussed the correct way to use a paint brush.

We are starting by giving our owls a base coat of color.  Next time we will be painting lines on top with more color!

Ask you child about their first painting experience in 2ng grade!

1st Grade | Pumpkins!

In first grade art we have been discussing the primary colors: red, yellow, and blue!

We've also discussed what these colors mix together to make- the secondary colors: orange, green, and purple.

We are mixing primary colors, red and yellow to paint our free hand drawn pumpkins!

We took time to talk about the correct way to use all our painting materials.  WOW! Did I ever have a great group of direction followers!!

Ask your child about their first painting experience this year :)

4th Grade | Complementary Colors

A standard in 4th grade art is:

* I can identify and use complementary color pairs.

Today we discussed the compliments, did a fun experiment with color and our brain, and talked about famous artist Andy Warhol and his use of color in his art work.

Try this fun experiment with your kids:

- Stare at the yellow dot for a little bit.  Then, close your eyes- what do you see?  The compliment!

Now try it with red!

and finally blue!

We will be making "GIANT complementary colored fall leaves" next week! Look for them in the halls soon! :)

Have a good weekend.  Don't forget to play some of the fun art games!!

Kindergarten | Kandinsky Tree

Kindergarten has been working on:

- cutting
- gluing
- "background"
- "warm colors"
- The artist Kandinsky

See if your kindergartner can tell you what each of those are!
See finished Kandinsky Trees in the hall today!!

See them at home soon!

2nd Grade | Secondary Colors

In second grade we have been discussing and mixing colors.  Specifically the SECONDARY COLORS!

The primary colors are: red, yellow, and blue.  When you mix any two of these together you get a secondary; orange, green, and purple.

We will be starting our first art project using the secondary colors next week!  Keep an eye for them soon!
